bound4blue and Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) have announced a partnership to install four 26-meter-high eSAILs® on LDC’s chartered juice vessel, MV Atlantic Orchard, in 2024. This collaboration, involving Wisby Tankers AB (Sweden), aims to reduce the vessel’s annual fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by at least 10%.
Pioneering Wind-Assisted Propulsion
bound4blue, a leader in maritime decarbonization, will retrofit the MV Atlantic Orchard, owned by Wisby Tankers, with its innovative eSAIL® system. This technology, designed to harness wind power through an autonomous vertical sail, significantly reduces fuel use and emissions. The eSAIL®’s thick aerodynamic profile and suction technology generate seven times more lift than a conventional airplane wing, enhancing propulsion efficiency.
Third-Party Endorsement
Lloyd’s Register conducted a third-party assessment, identifying bound4blue’s eSAIL® as the most promising solution among various evaluated technologies. This endorsement supports LDC’s decision to adopt this advanced sail technology.
Leadership Perspectives
José Miguel Bermúdez, CEO of bound4blue, stated: “We are excited about our agreement with LDC, demonstrating our eSAIL® system’s versatility and effectiveness in reducing fuel consumption and emissions. LDC is a pioneer in adopting clean technologies, and we are proud to support their environmental goals.”
Sébastien Landerretche, LDC’s Global Head of Freight, added: “LDC is committed to contributing to a low-carbon economy. Our partnership with bound4blue and Wisby Tankers aligns with the IMO’s 2050 decarbonization targets. We are pleased to enhance our chartered juice vessel with this cutting-edge sail technology.”
